Ken Hackling & Edge Transport Honored

06 March 2012

Ali and Muriel Karim [of Hazchem Network] were delighted to be invited [as guests of Hazchem Depot 030 Edge Transport] to the 20th Anniversary Palletline Awards, held in Kenilworth on Saturday 3rd of March. It was good to celebrate and raise our glasses to the four brave logistics companies that changed the face of UK palletized distribution – setting up the first UK ‘Pallet-Network’ in 1991 – Palletline, now celebrating its 20th year of trade. It was great to see Expect Distribution’s Bob Rushworth and Ken Hackling of John Hackling Transport attend [as they were two of the four founding members].

The evening was bristling with hauliers from Palleline’s 70 member depots and their hub, all decked in black tie attire, clutching flutes of champagne and talking about the challenges that face us all in the tough world of transport.

After an excellent dinner, the awards commenced with a display of ballroom dancing followed by the Northern Irish Stand-up comic Patrick Kielty acting as Master of Ceremonies. Kielty opened by announcing how happy he was hosting The Palestine Award Dinner, and how he sides with the people of Palestine as he is equally enraged at the action Israel have against you good people of Palestine…….”  To much guffaws and then he continued with some affectionate gags about ‘pallet distribution’ – which became increasingly more surreal, as the night went on.

In transport a sense of humor is a pre-requisite for survival.

Special lifetime achievement awards went to Palletline Board members Robert Rushworth from Expect Distribution and Ken Hackling from Hackling Transport, based in Bourton-on-the-Water. Both men received rousing standing-ovations from the attendees. We were delighted to see Ken Hackling honored, as apart from his early insight in jointly setting up Palletline; he also saw merit in the Hazchem Network when we started trade in 2004. Ken Hackling has been a very strong supporter of our ADR operations, investing in the company as well as sitting on our board. His early backing of Hazchem Network as well as the support from his team at John Hackling Transport [Hazchem Depot 19] is something we never underestimate.

We were equally delighted to see that Hazchem Depot 30 Edge Transport [our generous hosts that evening] scooped Palletline's Delivery Depot of the Year Award in the category “Large Delivery Depot Award”. If you’re working in the North West and North / Mid-Wales – we’d recommend you give Richard Pridding at Edge Transport a call on 01978 854123 as they can sort any of your logistics needs professionally.

The Hazchem Network is proud to now be an important part of the UK logistics infrastructure for ADR palletized and parcel distribution. Recent figures show that today's UK's pallet networks move an estimated 12 million pallets every year and directly employ in excess of 150,000 people nationwide.
