Hazchem co-sponsor the 2017 CWA Dagger Awards

28 July 2017

Our Managing Director’s passion outside of Industrial Chemistry and Logistics is an avid [bordering upon obsessive] interest in Literature and Film, especially the Horror, Crime, Mystery and Thriller Genres.

We reported previously about Ali Karim’s excitement with HBO’s Season One of True Detective and of course AMC’s Breaking Bad which mixes Crime Fiction with Chemistry.

Apart from Karim’s own writing and book reviewing, he is an avid reader and works as a literary commentator as well as a Judge for The Crime Writers Association [CWA]. He is currently one of the judges on the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger committee [for best thriller]. Previously he has acted as a Judge for the CWA Gold Dagger, CWA Short Story Dagger, International Thriller Writers [ITW] Best Thriller Novel as well as the ITW Best Debut Thriller; Deadly Pleasures Magazine’s Barry Awards and on various Longlists for other genre awards for Literature.

In-conjunction with Crimefest, Hazchem Network [as well as Karim - personally] sponsored the 2017 CWA Dagger Shortlists which were presented in London on Wednesday 26th July, and Hosted by Waterstones Piccadilly.

The Full Results from last night can be viewed HERE or downloaded as a .pdf [right click and ‘save as’ to your hard drive] and the presentations can viewed as a video HERE.

All the work the CWA Judges have shortlisted for the 2017 Dagger Awards are well worth exploring, especially as Summer Holiday Reads.

Ali returned from The Theakston’s Crime-Writing Festival held in Harrogate last weekend, where he and Mark Lawson’s team ‘The Journos’ came second in the highly coveted Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Fiction Quiz.

Karim and Lawson’s team lost out to Jane Gregory’s Team ‘The Velociraptors’ by one point – with footage available HERE of Val McDermid and Mark Billingham presenting the winning team with their trophy.

The Hazchem Network Team follow the edict that an interest in Detective Fiction is most useful when working in the Logistics Industry, for it helps develop ‘problem solving’ abilities and skills; a pre-requisite when working in our sector.

If you need assistance in the Logistics of Dangerous Goods, please feel free to contact Hazchem Network’s Nada Marinovic, as we’re here to help as we are the UK’s only Pallet Network devoted to Dangerous Goods under ADR with our award-nominated emergency response service www.hers-info.co.uk
